Saint Anna - mother of the Virgin Mary and grandmother of Jesus Christ - came from a priest's family and was well brought up and educated. Anna is not mentioned in the Bible, but is present in apocryphal texts. Legends say that Saint Anna accompanied the family of little Jesus during their escape to Egypt, where she later raised the divine grandson.
